Dead Master Original PVC Featured Image

Dead Master -Original Version- 1/8th Scale Figure Review

Dead Master is one of those characters that shouldn’t need an introduction to any modern-day anime fan. By now, you’ve probably already been subjected to hundreds of animated gifs, Youtube AMV’s, and fan art drawings featuring this fearsome scythe wielding gothic lolita from the Black ★ Rock Shooter series. She is of course, Yomi Takanashi’s alter personality and one of the major protagonist/antagonist in the BRS manga and anime universe. Today we’re going to be reviewing one of the many Dead Master PVC statuettes to be released by Good Smile Company, the Dead Master -Original Version- 1/8 Scale PVC Figure.

She comes well packaged in a sturdy corrugated cardboard box, just like all the other BRS figures by Good Smile Company, however her box is accented by three glow in the dark skulls. The phosphorescent paint used on these skulls is actually surprisingly bright and gives off a scary green glow in a pitch dark room.

Unfortunately, none of the highly anticipated Wild costumes will be accessible this time around, but the support files to use them are included in the update.

Kill La Kill – Anime Series Review

Kill la Kill is one of those shows that just kind of popped up one day and took the Internet by storm. At first I thought it looked incredibly stupid and objectifying, but after seeing the millionth gif of Kiryuin Satsuki and her magnificent eyebrows, I finally decided to give the series a chance. KlK is a wild ride — it’s so high-energy that it’s almost exhausting to watch. But if you love stylized, explosive, power-up anime in the spirit of Tenga Toppa Gurren Lagann, you’ll probably love KlK as much as I did.

Prinz Eugen Kantai Collection 07

Prinz Eugen, KanColle Picture Pack VOL 1

If you’re unfamiliar with Prinz Eugen or KanColle, please read on while I enlighten you. KanColle, also know as Kantai Collection, is an online web browser-based card game. One must assume the role of an navel admiral and assemble a fleet of ‘ship girls’ known as ‘kanmusu.’ These kanmusu are all based on WWII era ships and submarines, and are your defense against attacking alien warships.

Prinz Eugen is card no. 176 and an Admiral Hipper-Class Heavy Cruiser in the game. Card no. 177 is an upgraded version called Prinz Eugen Kai and has enhanced attacking and defense stats. Her name itself is a play on ‘Prince Eugene,’ an important field marshall in Austrian military history.

Akame ga KILL – Great Manga Or Guilty Pleasure?

When I first read the plot summary of Akame ga KILL, I thought it would be another fantasy and party adventure type series. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Many manga summaries have the word “assassin” in them, with most of them being either the historical type or shonen type where the protagonist is unwilling to kill. However, this is different. When they say “assassin”, they meant it literally. If I have to give a metaphor, it would be like a Robin Hood based story, but instead of stealing from the rich, he’d kill the rich and save the poor, as in this story, most of the wealthy ones are corrupted individuals.

This manga has a lot of gore, although it is not on Elfen Lied level. It shows scenes of death and torture, one example is the tearing off a face. Thus, if you can’t handle those kind of thing, this manga is probably not for you. However, if you can handle gore, you will definitely enjoy reading Akame ga KILL. The fight scenes in this manga are pretty decent and I have no complaints about the art style.

Raidou Returns In Dead or Alive 5: Last Round!

It’s just been confirmed by Famitsu magazine, that the original boss character from Dead Or Alive will be making his return to the DOA franchise. After hinting last month that 2 new characters were being added to Dead or Alive 5: Last Round, we’re finally getting some details about one of them, Raidou. Raidou however, will not look like his former self, he will be enhanced with cyborg technology when he makes his long awaited return. Unfortunately no gameplay or still images of Raidou in DOA5LR have surfaced yet, but here’s everything we know about this classic DOA character to date.

Raidou was born as the eldest son to the main family of the Mugen Tenshin Ninja Clan. He was praised at one time for his natural talent for the arts of the Tenjinmon style of Mugen Tenshin Ryu Ninjutsu. His father, Burai, was the 17th Master Ninja of the clan at the time.

Mariko Okubo – Japanese Babe Of The Week!

Congratulations to Mariko Okubo (おおくぼ まりこ), the official Japanese babe of the week! She is a widely published swimsuit model who was discovered at the Marine Sea Story Audition in 2003. Originally born on September 7th, 1984 in Sasebo City, Nagasaki, she moved to Fukuoka, Japan, where she attended elementary school. She later moved to Hyogo and remained there from middle school through college, but she still considers Fukuoka to be her home town.

The Machine Girl 2D DVD

The Machine Girl – Bloody, Gory, and Pure Japanese Fun!

If you, like me, are fed up with movies that promise heaps of action, gore, and blistering violence but then wuss out in every possible way, allow me to direct you to The Machine Girl, a live action Japanese offering that is so balls-out crazy and over-the-top across the board that it brought an ear-to-ear smile to my face. I was intrigued by this film’s trailer when I saw it several months ago, so when I stumbled across the movie itself while DVD shopping the other day I figured I’d take a chance on it, and, hoo-boy, am I glad I did. I’ve frequently decried the crappy quality of many recent action flicks from the Land of the Rising Sun, but this one gets a solid 10 out of 10 for its unfailing intent to give the bloodthirsty audience exactly what it wants. And then some! It’s the goriest film I’ve seen in who knows how long, and as per what you’d expect from the Japanese it’s barking mad in its over the top carnage and violence; no bullshit, I had exclaimed “Holy Shit!” no less than three times before the movie was even five minutes into its running time.

Good Smile Company - Akemi Homura PVC Statuette 22

Good Smile Company – 1/8th Scale Akemi Homura PVC statue

Today we are taking a look at an amazing 1/8th scale Akemi Homura PVC statue made by the Good Smile Company. For those of you unfamiliar with whom Akemi Homura is, she is one of the main characters in the Puella Magi Madoka Magica series. This series is best known for taking the usually upbeat and happy magical girl genera, and turning it in to a dark depressing saga. I personally recommend that anyone who hasn’t heard of this series to watch the anime and read the manga. It’s a compelling story where magical girls live hopeless lives of despair, in exchange for the power to battle witches. Internal struggles and the dark secrets regarding the nature and origin of magical girls, wreak havoc on the lives of 5 middle school girls, all the while the destruction of the world nears ever closer. I’ll write a review for the anime and manga very soon, but for now, lets move on to our Akemi Homura statuette review!

Like most Good Smile Company figures, we get a great initial view of Akemi Homura, thanks to the large submarine windows on the front and side of the box. The design on the back of the package is great as well, it will be instinctively to stare at the artwork before opening the box.
